#HP @HP Pavilion laptop media smart bar fix.

First fuck @HewlettPackard.

The Symptom:
After the third year of owning my HP Pavilion dv8 the “smart bar” “slide bar” “smart touch” “bull shit” began to randomly adjust settings: volume, treble, bass, and wifi. Flickering on and off up and down as if it had a soul of its own

The Fix:
The first picture shows the removal of the speaker cover. I just ripped it off. The additional three years of dealing with this problem made the tearing of plastic very easy.

The second picture shows the media smart bar pulled up. It lifts and snaps free easily.

The third picture shows the ribbon which powers the touch technology.

The fourth picture shows the separated ribbon from the plastic bar which snaps right back into place.

The power button still works and because…much like everyone I know who has had the same issue, I NEVER used the piece of shit bar, my problem has been solved.

The Disease:
Not having properly tested their product I bought a $4000.00 beta version sold as a final product. Microsoft did the same thing with the Xbox. NEVER play your Xbox after moving it without reseating the disc. This was a known issue but Microsoft figured we have the time to send them the disc in exchange for a new one since I have the time to spend playing video games. Just as Hewlett Packard believes we have time to call their help line on multiple occasion and be told to download the same “patch” every time until my warranty runs out.
So for the longest period of time I did what i had time to do: battle back and forth with it. The “smart bar” would turn off wifi, I’d turn it back on…reseat the laptop…adjust the screen tilt…this would be the cycle for two years until I ripped up the speaker cover found the ribbon and unplugged it.

My previous laptop was a @Compaq I only went with #HP because I had a horrible experience with Compaq customer service after my laptop was stolen by one of their shipping companies. Neither get the value of customer loyalty.

Now my spirit is at rest.
